DOWNTOWN CHURCH PLANT | Return to Ministry List
In the aftermath of 9/11, it was an immediate dream of the Manhattan Church of Christ family to plant a church in the financial district to help that area in discovering the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. The hope is that a church will be planted in January 2005 and the Good News will be shared with those of downtown Manhattan.
The vision of making this church plant happen is evolving. As it is now, there will be several preemptive strikes before actually opening doors for a Sunday service. In the summer and fall of 2004, the hope is to have a core group of people meet for small group studies around the downtown area. We also hope to have an Alpha Course in a rented facility in the downtown area as well in the fall of 2004. To keep up to date on the evolving vision of how this will work out, e-mail Joe.
Opportunities for Involvement:
- You can commit to being a part of a core group that makes this church plant happen. That would mean being a member of the new church plant and bringing your energy and life into this new endeavor.
- You can financially commit to this work. Starting a new church in Manhattan is not an easy task in so many ways. Not only will it be challenging to reach out to those of the city but having the finances to keep the dream alive is also necessary and Manhattan is not a cheap place to live or work.
- You can seriously commit yourself to prayer for this specific ministry. This church plant can only happen with God guiding the way. Please pray often for those who are leading this new church plant and for those who are searching with which we might come in contact.
LOOKING FOR TEAMMATES: The
Downtown Church Plant is currently looking for teammates to
join in this exciting adventure. Specifically the plant needs:
- Someone who is gifted in music and media. This church
will seek to be relevant to the surrounding culture so
someone who is a gifted musician and has a heart for making
media a part of our worship experience is needed!
- Someone who is gifted in evangelism and preaching. This
church will start from the beginning and is need of someone
who has a heart for those who are not Christians. This
person also needs to have preaching skills that will share
the pulpit with Joe.
Both of these need to be theologically sound and well
thought. More than anything, these need to have huge hearts
for the city and those who live and work in it!
