DIVORCE RECOVERY | Return to Ministry List
Our Divorce Recovery ministry is called "Divorce Care." The purpose of the Divorce Care group is to help individuals to heal who are hurting from the pain of divorce or separation. It provides a safe place for each person to talk about their thoughts and feelings from their particular trauma, and to begin to rebuild or restore self-esteem.
This ministry uses the well established "DivorceCare" program founded by Steve and Cheryl Grissom.
This 13-week program creates a support group that utilizes three vital approaches.
- Video: At each session, a videotaped presentation deals with a particular problem related to divorce. A wide range of experienced experts share their insights, and people who have gone through separation or divorce recount their personal experiences.
- Support Group: After the presentation, members of the group discuss their insights and reflections on the material on the basis of their own experiences.
- Personal Reflections and Study between Sessions: Participants are encouraged to take time between sessions to reflect on what happened during the group meeting and how the concepts that were discussed apply to their personal circumstances. At the first session, every participant receives a DivorceCare notebook, and each week they have an opportunity to complete the "On Your Own" section the notebook and bring questions and comments to the group meeting. The program encourages participants to turn to the church community for support and encouragement.
The Divorce Care support group meets Fridays, 6:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Church of Christ.
We encourage those who are hurting to bring their issues and concerns and share in this safe, confidential environment. |
