About Us
Jared Looney was born in Columbus, Ohio, but his family moved to Harlingen, Texas during his early childhood. Jared became a Christian in 1987 while living in South Texas and went on to attend Abilene Christian University (ACU) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Domestic Missions.
While attending ACU, Jared began to recognize the need for ministry in urban centers and discovered a passion for that ministry. He took leadership roles in directing a Christian drama ministry, working with a ministry to unchurched youth, and developing an urban ministry interest group for college students. He spent his summer vacations working with various ministries such as Houston Impact Ministries, Memphis Urban Ministry, and Camp Shiloh in New York.
In 1996 Jared joined the staff of Impact Houston Church of Christ. He worked as a youth minister and developed new ministry programs. During this time, Jared also completed a Master of Arts at Houston Graduate School of Theology. He served as Vice President of Student Senate for a year and played a significant role in planning the seminary's first new student orientation. While working in Houston, Jared also traveled to New York City on multiple occasions with the intention of eventually relocating to the city to begin a church-planting ministry.
As co-workers became committed to the vision, Jared again relocated to Abilene where he spent a year and a half as the church planter-in-residence with Mission Church. As he worked on team development and on securing the financial resources for ministry in New York City, he was a cell group leader and was part of the worship planning team at Mission Church.
In 2001 Jared relocated to New York City and quickly solidified
the partnership with Manhattan Church of Christ, and plans
for developing new ministries in the city were finally united.
August 31, 2002 Jared married Hylma Blagrove who he had met
at Manhattan Church of Christ. Jared & Hylma have been playing
a lead role in Bronx Fellowship of Christ, a newly planted
church in the Pelham Parkway community of the Bronx. He continues
to work with the staff of Manhattan Church of Christ both
as a resource for future church planting and as a facilitator
for the development of Mission:NYC. |
